Act 3 Questions

Posted by: danny chae | May 30, 2008 | No Comment |

1. Benetha stopped caring about sick people and started to see that there were other ailments for mankind, so she decided she didn’t want to be a doctor.

2. He sees idealists as people who aren’t afraid to dream and go for their goals, and realists as people who don’t have the will to do so, who just walk in the “circle” instead of the “line”.

3. Asagai asks Benetha to go to Africa with him.

4. Lena thinks that her and Walter never learned not to aim too high in their dreams for them to accomplish.

5. He is going to take the money from the Lindner so that they wont move in to the new house and all the whites there will be happy.

6. He doesn’t take the money because his family is a proud family and if they took the money it would make them seem weak and giving to society.

7. I think that since the plant never grew big and strong in the old house, when they moved into the new house it would grow strong. This signifies how the family didn’t grow or succeed in that house, but now that they are moving into this new house, their lives will get better, just like that of the plant.

Our Racist, Sexiest Selves

Posted by: danny chae | May 14, 2008 | No Comment |

1. I think that he does this to start the post saying that he is also a victim of it too, other than coming out and victimizing other people who might be racist. I think he is right, that the stereotypes get to us.

2. I think that these tests do measure unconscious racism because we do these tests and try to go to speed, and the faster we do things, the more we just go off by reaction, which is our unconscious beliefs.

3. The author thinks that sexism is harder to get rid of than racism because when we see someone, if they are a women, we can’t get away from the fact that they are women, as to when we meet other races, we can meet them and forget what race they and just remember who they are.

4. I think that the quote states that when we think of women, we don’t down grade them, but we tend to think that they are too soft to be leaders, and that they are not manly enough to do the task of being a true leader.

5. The problem that women face is that women cannot be tough and strong and also be kind and caring. Its either one or the other, so in that case, people think that women are not meant to be people to do things to benefit in leading some kind of struggle or leading any group of people.

6. This problem can be confronted  by changing things like the teachers that they are shown and such things as that.

Raisin in the Sun

I think that the movie is somewhat stereotypical. That the family can never get a long and that the male of a black family is only thinking about money. They try to move into the house but the white people can can’t stand to have their community changed by this family of blacks. they think that blacks are so horrible and gorillas. The african-americans were no different and are no different than anyone today. I also think that this is a story about any regular family because any regular family has their own problems just like the family that was there in the movie.

2 part blog post

part 1

For the DSP’s, i thought it was really interesting the different techniques that people used and the different ways they went about the whole entire project. I liked everyones videos, i thought it was a chance to show our creative levels and see if we can create the image that we wanted to.  It was cool to see our project and see it on the screen, a different view from what we saw on our laptops. I think that it was a good project to be able to express the ways that we are able to think and the ways we are able to do the project. I think if we had more time, it would have made our project better, but it was still good and i am glad we had an opportunity to do this project.

part 2

My first reaction to racism is that it is wrong and that it should be gone from us. Racism is just a thing that stops all of us from uniting as a body of people and seperates us into different bodies so that there is always a problem arising, that their is always one way to do things and the other begs to differ. I think that racism is not something that is instinct but something that we are grown to, by our surroundings and that we the racism is something that is brought upon our shoulders and taught and people who are racist tend to only see one side of the story. At school, i think that different ethnicity groups tend to hang around the people who are the same ethnicity but its starting to open up a little more now. People aren’t contained to people who are in their ethnic groups. Race is only a thought in our minds, race is something that is more imaginary than real, but it still seems to exist today and it all comes down to one thing, how we choose to accept it.

Laws

Always say less than necessary

I agree with this because a lot of times when we talk, we tend to go over the edge with the things that we choose to say. A lot of times we blabber out things that we never meant to say. and often times when we try to explain something, we tend to go to far and get off the subject of what we are trying to explain. I think that this law works because the law makes sure that people don’t go to far with there opinions. This laws makes sure that you use wise word choice and makes sure that you never go to far with the things you are saying.

Guilt

Posted by: danny chae | April 10, 2008 | No Comment |

I remember this one time when I was a little kid, I went into this little mini mart with my mom. I wanted some candy really badly and my mom wouldn’t get it for me because she told me it would rot my teeth. I had to get the candy though, I was a little kid with a sweet tooth, I couldn’t help it. So I took a candy bar and I put it into my pants pocket and I walked out with my mom. Then we started walking out towards the car, and I was so afraid that the guy working at the store was going to come out and tell my mom what I had done. We got home and the whole time I felt so guilty trying to act like I hadn’t done anything. So when we got home I went straight to my room, I ate the candy bar and I threw the wrapper away so I could hide the evidence. My mom came into my room just as I had thrown the wrapper away and she asked me if something was wrong. I said no and she went downstairs but I felt so guilty I couldn’t get it off my mind for weeks.
